Someone else’s idea of being a teenager ’em up Mixtape gets a new trailer

The Artful Escape developers Beethoven & Dinosaur announced Mixtape last year, a nostalgic (providing you’re nostalgic for very specific, suburban American teenager things) skating adventure set to “soundtrack of a generation” (providing you were a suburban American teenager during that specific generation). Here’s a new trailer for it.

Mixtape stars three friends experiencing “dreamlike reenactments of their formative memories” while listening to music. You’ll explore, skate, drive around, and take photos, all brought to life with stop motion animation. Here’s what Steam has to say about it.

En route to their final party together, a perfectly curated playlist draws three friends into dreamlike reenactments of their formative memories. Experience a variety of narrative vignettes exploring the pivotal moments that shaped them. Players will immerse themselves in the teenage wasteland by playing through a mixtape of joyful gameplay, from skateboarding and flying to taking photos after hours at an abandoned theme park, hitting baseballs, and putting on a fireworks show from the backseat of a car. It’s the greatest hits of the teenage experience, from the first kiss to the last dance.

It is, as you’ve probably gathered, inspired by classic coming-of-age films, and features a soundtrack including The Smashing Pumpkins, Iggy Pop, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Joy Division, and the Cure. It’s out sometimes this year.
