Grounded 2 brings big bug survival to Game Preview this July

Grounded 2, the sequel to Obsidian’s Honey I Shrunk The Kids ’em up, has been announced for a July 29th release into Xbox’s Game Preview program – effectively early access. It’s looking very similar to the previous game so far – a creative survival game where regular garden features like spiders and plants becoming terrifying foes and imposing megastructures. Trailer below. It’s got some early Offspring in it! God. Smash is 21 years old. Shrink me into a pile of dust (Edit: It’s 31. Forgive these ancient, useless eyes.)

Here’s Xbox on the game:

Shrunk again, but the world is much larger. In this open-world, single-player or cooperative survival adventure, craft weapons and armor, build your base, and traverse the playground on your buggy. But something else is out there—and it hasn’t forgotten you.

As seen in the trailer, you can fight bugs, pet bugs, ride bugs, build a base out of parts presumably at least in part gathered from the corpses of bugs, and do this all with mates. Maybe one of your mates is a bug. Maybe you’re all bugs. It’s fine. This is the garden. It’s a great place to be a bug. Or an awful place I suppose if you’re a smaller, prey-like bug. My heart goes out to those guys, consumed as they may be by the time it reaches them.

“An incredibly rewarding survival experience that constantly pushes you into new areas of its reactive world,” was Hayden’s take (RPS in peace) on the first Grounded “filled with insect inhabitants that are some of the best baddies in gaming”.
